Ever since Doosan Infracore began producing diesel engines during 1958, the business has continued to manufacture its R&D capacities to stay at the forefront of the industry within Korea. In the year 1975, Doosan began mass producing diesel engines at its very first large-scale plant. In 10 years the production technology of the business had progressed to the point that production of its very own diesel engine model was possible. Doosan's leadership position within the industry was secured. During the year 1995 Doosan made its very first low-emission diesel engine, followed by commercial vehicle CNG engines three years later. Since 2000, the company has developed technology for low-pressure natural gas engines, sophisticated common-rail engines, and Tier 3-compliant engines. To be able follow stringent Euro emission control standards, the company developed a heavy-duty, low emission diesel engine model in 2007.
Doosan has many facilities around the globe that help manufacture 60 different engine models, as well as parts and materials. Products include diesel engines and natural gas engines for forklifts, trucks, construction machinery, buses, ships, generators and more. Engines range from 70 to 1,500 hp. Annual output is now 75,000 units.
The company is continually engaged in expanding R&D capabilities to expand to more markets and increase output. Demand for stricter regulations governing engine emissions has led the company to build a compressed natural gas engine plant within the US in the year 2008, and a joint venture plant in Xuzhou, China. The factory in China could make 50,000 diesel engines every year, with production scheduled to start in the year 2011.
