Reach Truck
A reach truck is utilized to stock up supplies, pallets of goods, and to keep storage places orderly. The reach truck comes in quite a few types: the straddle reach, stand-up reach and the double-deep reach.
The stand-up is the simplest. The truck forks slide underneath the pallet and move it to the right storage place. The forks slide the pallet into position. This type of reach truck is recommended when shelving units are only one pallet deep.
The double-deep reach truck is similar to the stand-up, but is best for workplaces where shelving units are deep enough to accommodate two pallets of goods. This version consists of telescopic forks designed to place the pallet at the rear of the shelving unit. This saves having to push the pallet back when another pallet should go into the same shelving section.
Straddle reaches have the added advantage of being able to not only slide under the pallet, but also to grasp the sides. These are recommended for workplaces where shelving units are accessible in many directions. This version is ideal in situations where goods would not be damaged if the sides of the pallet are grabbed.
Usually more than one kind of reach truck is required in warehouses. Textile firms and manufacturing facilities utilize different kinds of reach trucks in their supply areas. The reach truck is not difficult to operate and could make the most of available storage space while increasing production.
