History
In the year 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was established by Anton Raky, an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The original company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid in 1937, when the Salzgitter Group obtained a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling equipment. In 1986, the company bought the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into a global brand name in the following years. Presently, SMAG is the world's market leader, using grabs for waste disposal, worldwide cargo handling applications and agriculture.
